It depends on the mode and how often the sensor is triggered. Sensor mode uses far less power than continuous flow, which is only available while plugged in. Charge it fully before first use.
The pump is a small submersible pump. In sensor or timed mode it runs in short bursts, so for most of the day it is silent. Keeping the water topped up keeps the pump quietest.
